Tournament rules Tournament schedule

The tournaments on Backgammon.international are free for all players.

The prize pools are fully sponsored by the club.

After each tournament ends, the prizes won are credited to the player's prize wallet. From there they can be withdrawn to a personal PayPal or bank account.

The tournaments are conducted using a single elimination system.

-- Tournament bracket --

Players in the tournament are placed in a bracket.

The first player in the bracket plays against the last, the second against the second-to-last, and so on.

At the top of the bracket are the club members, arranged according to their place in the rankings. Guest players are arranged below them according to their date of registration.

Arrangement in the tournament bracket applies to Round-0, Round-1 and to the 1/8 finals.

-- Round-0 --

If the number of participants is not a power of 2, a preliminary knockout round is held. The purpose is to reduce the number of players to a suitable value for direct eliminations: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128,...

For Round-0, the registration time for the tournament is important: the earliest registered players qualify directly for Round One.

For example: if 100 players have registered, 36 players must be eliminated (so that 64 remain). In this case, 72 players play 36 matches. The earliest 28 registered players qualify directly for the next round, while the last 72 registered players are placed in a tournament bracket and play one match.

-- Round One --

Before the start of Round One, the players are again placed in a tournament bracket and the opponents are determined.

-- Intermediate rounds --

Matches in the next round are formed in the order in which players finish their matches in the previous round. This principle applies up to and including the 1/16 finals.

-- Final rounds --

The 16 players who have qualified for the 1/8 finals are again placed in a tournament bracket.

The match order according to the positions in the bracket is as follows:

1/8 final 1/4 final semifinal final semifinal 1/4 final 1/8 final
player 1 player 2
player 16 player 15
player 8 player 7
player 9 player 10
player 5 player 6
player 12 player 11
player 4 player 3
player 13 player 14
