Our Mission

Backgammon.international is an online sports club.

Our goals are:

  • to attract every dedicated backgammon enthusiast;
  • to maintain the world backgammon ranking;
  • to organize daily tournaments with real prizes.

The tournaments on Backgammon.international are free for all players. The prize pools are funded exclusively by the club.

We do not plan to introduce paid tournaments. We believe that this privilege should remain available only to offline clubs around the world. Changes in gambling regulations in recent years have made it difficult for backgammon clubs to stay afloat. With restrictions on freely organizing tournaments, clubs often operate on the verge of bankruptcy.

We, the fans of this ancient game, guided by the belief that backgammon is a sport, declare:

  • We insist that backgammon be officially recognized as a sport.
  • We want to improve our skills without obstacles.
  • We wish to play freely, without being accused of gambling.
  • We long to measure our strength against the best players in professional tournaments and world leagues.
  • We enjoy the element of randomness in the dice—it develops our combinational thinking.
  • Assessing positions and calculating probabilities is not a matter of luck.
  • Choosing one move out of dozens of possibilities depends entirely on the player’s skill—and is not a matter of luck.

A backgammon player must choose dozens of moves and make hundreds of judgments within just a few minutes. The probability that a grandmaster with a rating of 2200 will win an 11-point match against an amateur rated 800 is over 99.5%. Comparable probabilities exist in chess and tennis, but not in games of chance.

Dear members of the gambling industry, we would welcome your moral support for our mission. You have surely noticed that backgammon players do not wish to play their favorite game in a casino. You have probably realized that you are more likely to sponsor a tournament than to expect profit from us. If we are forced to turn to the nearest casino for every tournament, we will eventually come to resent poker, roulette, blackjack, and casinos altogether.

Dear lawmakers around the world, do not be afraid of the word “backgammon”.

Bring it forward for discussion.

Consult experts for evaluation.

Study public opinion.

And declare: “Backgammon is a sport”.

Backgammon.international collects information on legal regulations in every country. We plan to publish analyses on the opportunities and constraints related to maintaining backgammon clubs in different parts of the world. If you are familiar with the legislation in your region, please write to us.
